At the /Institute of Bioanalytical Chemistry within the BMBF funded project "Integration of oxidative stress into systems medicine view for obesity and obesity related complications" the following position has to be filled as soon as possible:
PhD position
Employment contract (fixed-term-contract, limited up to March 31, 2019)
(standard public service salary, TV-L 13, 50 % part time)
Project description: The project aims to evaluate the impact of oxidative stress on etiology of obesity and obesity related complications using Systems Medicine environment. The project will combine a wide array of approaches including mass spectrometry based omics data acquisition, clinical characterization, statistical evaluation, and mathematical modeling. Data on lipid and protein oxidation will be integrated via genome-scale metabolic modeling and regulatory protein networks analysis to obtain systems medicine view on metabolically healthy and diseased (insulin sensitive vs resistant) obesity phenotypes and identify potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
  • Identify lipid and protein targets of oxidation in adipose tissue and blood plasma using high-throughput LC-MS techniques (multi-ox-omics approach) including the structural elucidation of new modifications
  • Perform statistical evaluation of multi-omics results
  • Data integration using mathematical modeling (genome-scale metabolic modeling and regulatory protein networks analysis)
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Master of Science (or equivalent degree) in chemistry, biochemistry, biopharmaceutical or biomedical sciences
  • Experience in bioanalytical methods including liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry
  • Knowledge in protein and/or lipid biochemistry
  • Knowledge in biostatistics
  • Experience in computational biology would be an advantage
  • Good knowledge in oral and written English (C1-level)
  • Motivation to work in a larger multidisciplinary and multinational research group
  • Good communication skills
