The Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute e.V. (FLI) is a research institute, which has the objective of understanding the molecular mechanisms of aging. Thereby we would like to contribute to healthy aging in humans. Various animal models (e.g. mice and fish) help us to generate relevant knowledge on the causes and the mechanisms of age-associated diseases and to investigate new therapeutic approaches. Scientists from many different nations conduct research at FLI.

The Bioinformatics Core Facility of the Leibniz Institute on Aging – Fritz-Lipmann-Institute e.V. in Jena invites applications for a

Bioinformatician (Job-ID 1529)

  • implement data analysis pipelines for in-house generated high-throughput data
  • support experimentalists in the design of experiments, interpretation and data visualization
  • establish workflows for integration of multiomics data
  • develop web-based graphical interfaces for large-scale data exploration
  • on top of the above tasks, the candidate is also encouraged to drive her/his own research project

  • Master or Doctoral degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics, mathematics, physics or related discipline
  • experience in analysis of large-scale datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, proteomics, etc..) and be proficient in computer programming and biostatistics
  • proven ability to analyze and interpret large-scale data in the context of biological pathways and networks
  • appropriate record of productivity (e.g. by academic papers or scientific software)
  • strong teamwork and communication skills (fluency in English is required)

We offer:
  • a position in a highly interdisciplinary institute for aging research, which harbours several state-of-the-art facilities including genomics, proteomics, imaging and screening platforms. Our work is embedded in the Beutenberg Campus, an interdisciplinary base for innovative research.
  • a contract which is initially limited to two years. The contract conditions and the salary will be according to the collective labour agreement for public service employees of the federal states of Germany.
