Scientific Programmer (m/f)

As a member of the Clinical Data Analytics group, you will be responsible for the conversion of their research work and prototypes into professional software. This requires close collaboration with the scientists who develop and apply new computational methods.
Your responsibilities
  • Design modular software architectures that support present and future projects
  • Help develop appropriate object models to make software reusable and maintainable
  • Refactor existing software
  • Professionalize the software testing
  • Introduce group members to useful libraries and other computer science tools to improve the quality of code
  • Encourage the consistent use of style conventions and other best practices
  • Keep up with relevant technology advances in software development
Your skills and qualifications
“Must have”
  • PhD or Masters in computer science or an equivalent education
  • Strong programming skills in Python and further programming languages (particularly relevant are R, C/C++, SAS, and Java)
  • Several years of experience in software development
  • Mathematical/analytical thinking, including familiarity with vector and matrix operations
  • Expertise in databases and SQL
  • Dependable, focused, and team-oriented
  • Good at explaining and teaching techniques to colleagues
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)
“Nice to have”
  • Experience in bioinformatics
  • Background knowledge on cancer, cell biology, clinical research, genomics, molecular biology, biotechnology, etc.
  • Familiarity with molecular data types (next-generation sequencing data, protein sequences, drugs, cancer treatment outcomes)
  • Proficiency in creating (graphical) user interfaces
  • German (spoken or written) would be a plus
