Fraunhofer IME ScreeningPort (IME-SP) in Hamburg is searching for a Bioinformatician, Computer Scientist or Biostatistician, working in the field of “Algorithms for Data Processing and Analytics on Heterogeneous Data Sets for Drug Development”, as soon as possible.

Job description:
• Support the management of IME SP in their project to operate the Information Centre for the New Drugs for Bad Bugs program
• Implement concepts, interfaces and workflows, especially for data integration, analytics, visualisation and result management for legacy and novel data from pharmaceutical industry, universities and SME collaborators
• Research, develop and apply appropriate analytical methods
• Discuss technical and scientific approaches within the project
• Demonstrate drive and enthusiasm towards the project work
• Conduct all work safely, record data in an accurate, timely and good Scientific Practice-compliant manner and contribute to the smooth running of IME-SP

The work will be performed in close cooperation with the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Hannover and includes research activities in the field of statistical data analysis/visualisation of heterogeneous data and the development of appropriate ETL processes for data cleansing/data harmonization. The working language is English. Suitably qualified applicants will have the opportunity to register for a PhD program.

What we expect from you:
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to deliver informatics and knowledge management capabilities as part of an exciting collaboration with pharmaceutical industry and academic partners under the innovative Medicines Initiative program New Drugs 4 Bad Bugs (ND4BB, see http://www.translocation.eu/index.php/myarticles/14-workpackage6n7).

Job requirements:
• A Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related degree. Master is desirable, but not required, depending on work experience
• Understanding of the bioinformatics related methodologies, when working within one or more of the following research disciplines: clinical research, pharmacology, toxicology or safety sciences
• Excellent analytical thinking and sound communication skills
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural team
• Technical writing skills and the ability to document requirements and workflow analyses
• Good English, spoken and written
• Working knowledge of methods associated with the study of antibacterial research would be a plus
• Ideal candidates would have relevant experience on bioinformatics methods related to preclinical research and drug discovery
• Technical experience with at least 2 of the following areas or applications:
a) Open Source Translational Research software tools
b) Statistical analysis methods and their applications in translational research
c) LIMS or ELN systems
d) Data visualisation programs

General Information:
The position is initially limited to 2 years.
The regular working time is 39 hours per week.
Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits are based on the TVöD.
In case of identical qualifications, preference will be given to severely disabled candidates.
