PhD and Postdoc Positions in Computational Biology
The Computational Biology Group at HZI is looking for a highly motivated and excellent postdoc or PhD student who is ready to tackle challenges in computational biology.
We offer: Research projects in the study of infectious diseases and microbial communities (metagenomics), genotype-phenotype inference, evolutionary studies and systems biology. The applicant should have an interest in machine learning, algorithms and working with data generated by ‘omics technologies. Available positions are funded with an attractive salary of 75 -100 % E13-14, depending on seniority level.
Location: The group is part of the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research (www.hzi.de), the Braunschweig Integrated Center for System Biology (BRICS) and Technical University of Braunschweig in Braunschweig, Germany. We collaborate locally, nationally and internationally with biologists and medical experts from universities and research institutes. Braunschweig is a city with a high density of scientific institutions, many parks and recreational areas and about 250.000 residents. It is centrally located within Germany, with shorter train travel times (30 min, 90 min) to Hannover and Berlin.
Requirements: The candidate should have a strong interest in interdisciplinary research, good programming skills and a degree in a related theoretical discipline, such as bioinformatics, computer science, statistics or physics. Postdoctoral candidates must have a competitive publication record. PhD applicants must have graduated within the top 20% of the grading range. Background knowledge in the problem areas, i.e. infectious diseases, evolutionary theory, ecology or genomics is advantageous, but not required.
