Professor of Computer Science – Big Data (M/F).

The professor position is intended to complement and strengthen the existing research expertise in the Computer Science and Communication Research Unit (CSC) of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication (FSTC) at the University of Luxembourg. He or she will reinforce and expand the activities of the RU in the field of Big Data. Big data refers to the storage, aggregation and analysis of massive amounts of structured and unstructured data, including machine learning and data mining of data masses. The professor may be specialized in specific application domains of Big Data, for instance in relation with the "Computational Science" initiative of the FSTC, or the LCSB and SnT research centers.
Excellent candidates in closely related fields may also be considered. Strong interactions with existing theoretical and experimental groups in Luxembourg are desirable.
 
The successful candidate will take part in the teaching activities in the MICS (academic Master in Information and Computer Sciences), and may also teach in the bachelor of informatics (BINFO) and the MSSI (Master en Management de la Sécurité de l’Information). Teaching will be done in the existing and future curricula at bachelor, master and PhD levels.
The contribution of the new colleague is essential to ensure high quality courses in this new key and broad domain that is Big Data.

Didactic skills, leadership abilities, service to the scientific community and the willingness to collaborate with existing research groups will be considered as well.

- Big Data Quality and Provenance Control
- Big Data Protection, Integrity and Privacy
 
- Machine Learning and Data Mining based on Big Data
- Distributed and Peer-to-peer Search
- Large Scale Natural Language Processing 
- Visualization of Big Data
 
- Big Data in Systems Biology and Biomedicine
- Big Data in Security (threat detection in very large systems or using Big Data) 
- Big Data in Human-Computer Interactions and Robotics
- Big Data in Mobile and Pervasive Computing
