Open Research Position: Biomedical Data Integration

The research group for „Knowledge Management in Bioinformatics“ at the Institute for Computer Science, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, has an open position in the area of biomedical data integration for cancer research. The position is available from 1st November 2016 until February 2019. Payment is according to German regulations TV-L 13. The position is adequate for PostDocs, engineers, and PhD students.

The position is part of two BMBF-funded projects within the program "i:DSEM - Semantic Integration of Biomedical Data". Within these projects, we develop semantically integrated databases for translational cancer research using a multitude of data sources, including text mining of scientific publications, integration of external databases, and internal and external -omics high-throughput experiments. Partners in these project are the Charité Berlin (Systems Biology, Oncology, Pathology), Humboldt-Universität (Machine Learning), Universität Tübingen (Bioinformatics) and others.

The holder of this position will work in an interdisciplinary group with researchers from computer science, medicine, and bioinformatics currently consisting of 14 full-time researchers plus students. He/she will benefit from contact with a number of other projects in the group related to statistical analysis of omics data, scientific workflows, and eScience infrastructures. Requirements
  • Very good Diploma, Master or PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a closely related area.
  • Practical experience in developing relational databases with web-based front-ends in small teams (3-6 people)
  • Very good knowledge in (scientific) data management and (semantic) data integration
  • Previous experience in biomedical data management is highly welcome
  • Very good communication skills
  • Very good working English (German is not required)
  • PostDocs: A high-profile record of publications
