PhD Student in Parallel Computing

The Institute of Computer Science (Informatik) at the Johannes-Gutenberg University (JGU) Mainz invites applications for a PhD student in the research groups of Professor Bertil Schmidt ( ) and Professor Andreas Hildebrandt (  ). The successful candidate will work in cutting edge area of designing and implementing parallel algorithms for Bioinformatics on various architectures (such as CUDA-enabled GPUs and the new KNL-based Xeon Phi).
You will
  • Design and implement efficient parallel algorithms and frameworks (such as Domain-specific languages (DSLs)) for bioinformatics (e.g. sequence alignment, molecular dynamics, boundary element methods)
  • Work in close collaboration with other project partners in Saarbrücken and Erlangen
  • Write scientific papers
  • MSc in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related areas
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++
  • Knowledge of algorithms and their mathematical analysis
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Motivated to work in interdisciplinary research projects
