The Institute IAB (Head: Prof. Carsten Hopf) leads a sub-consortium of the BMBF Forschungscampus „Mannheim Molecular Intervention Environment“(M2OLIE) and is a member of the joint Institute of Medical Technology with University of Heidelberg. It also coordinates the BMBF Innovation Network M2Aind („multimodal analytics and intelligent sensorics for the health industry“) with 37 industrial partners. For M2OLIE, the Hopf laboratory wants to strengthen its bioinformatics team with an experienced programmer (m/f) with an interdisciplinary mindset and a keen interest in medical applications of MSI and electronic histology. The Institute will be pleased to welcome a new team member with very high motivation, teamwork skills and highly relevant knowhow.
We offer a challenging, interdisciplinary R&D project with scientists, engineers and clinicians in a very dynamic team within the M2OLIE network (www.m2olie.de). The successful candidate will play a key role in the bioinformatics group that currently consists of three PhD students. In cooperation with the Pathology Institute of Heidelberg University, the Fraunhofer project team and with Leica Biosystems, you will create IT solutions for MSI- and other tumor image processing, for tumor biopsy classification and for suitable databases. You will be involved in publications, in project reporting and in representing the team in meetings with industrial and academic partners. Finally, you will supervise project-related student theses and be trained in project management.
The successful candidate has a Master degree (or possibly a PhD) in (bio-)informatics, (applied) mathematics, engineering or science (especially IT-related). He/she has a proven track- and publication record in mass spectrometry IT, preferably MSI-IT, or IT relating to other hyperspectral (imaging) methods. He/she is very experienced in programming in R and MATLAB (or Python). Substantial knowhow of multivariate statistics or of image processing would be a plus. The successful candidate is experienced in working towards defined goals and can do so effectively in an interdisciplinary environment. Team work and excellent social and communication skills (incl. presentations and scientific writing in English) are very high priorities in our team. The contract is initially termed till end of 2018, but – subject to positive evaluation of the project by the BMBF - may be extended by up to another four years. As required by law, the position could also be split into two 50% positions.
