CellNetworks (“Cellular Networks”) at the University of Heidelberg is a Cluster of Excellence devoted to the quantitative understanding of complex biological function. To meet the growing demand for quantitative methods in the life sciences, the Cluster has established a service facility called “MathClinic” that helps its members with quantification and analysis tasks, with a special focus on Image Analysis of Microscopy Data and Bioinformatics (http://math-clinic.bioquant.uni-heidelberg.de). Currently, we are looking for a scientist from

Image Analysis / Computer Vision / Image Processing (junior or senior level)

for the CellNetworks MathClinic located at the BioQuant Center for Quantitative Biology. Salary will be commensurate with prior experience (TV-L E13/E14) and the contract will last until 31.10.2017.

The candidate will help scientists at different levels of image analysis knowledge and offer workshops and 1:1 training within the MathClinic. In addition, the fellow will be directly  involved  in  cutting-edge  experimental  research  in  the Cluster,  with  the  potential  to  co-author  high-impact  publications with world-class scientists. Fellows are expected to both conduct independent research in their specialty, and assist experimentalists in analyzing their data (50% each). The fellow will be associated with the Biomedical Computer Vision group of Karl Rohr at the BioQuant Center or the Multidimensional Image Processing group of Fred Hamprecht at the Heidelberg Collaboratory for Image Processing, to provide a stimulating research environment for image analysis and computer vision. In summary, the position allows developing an independent research agenda in the area of bioimage analysis, with excellent opportunities to gain experience for cooperation both on the experimental and the theoretical side.

The successful candidate must have several of the following: published in high-ranking image analysis journals; experienced in service for scientists; carried responsibility for the successful application of image analysis methods in a large-scale project in the life sciences; played an important role in an open source software project. Good communication skills and the desire to work with experimental scientists on real-life data are a prerequisite.

CellNetworks places particular emphasis on recruiting female scientists and applications from female scientists will be preferentially considered.

The position is available as of April 2015. The search process starts now and will remain open until a suitable candidate has been found.
