THE POSITION

Boehringer Ingelheim Computational Biology Department is engaged in target discovery research and the application of innovative methods to resolve causative factors in disease progression.
This position is placed in a multi-disciplinary environment and the position holder will lead computational strategy for internal research programmes in both Research Beyond Borders and CNS Disease Research.
Furthermore the applicant will be the key contact to multiple research groups with the goal of furthering disease related new therapeutic concepts from large-scale multi-omics datasets.

Tasks & responsibilities
  • In your new role, you will be responsible for the work within the Computational Biology department and work closely with members of the Therapeutic Areas, Translational Medicine and Computational Biology.
  • You work with multiple-omics data, including transcriptomics (RNAseq, scRNAseq), genetics, and operate automated standard analysis pipelines with Linux-based local HPC and cloud-based environments. You will also work with queuing systems and modern pipelining systems.
  • With your expertise, you will be the interface between the therapeutic area and the NGS laboratory and will be responsible for the definition, coordination and implementation of strategies for ongoing projects.
  • Furthermore, you will undertake extensive data analyses for the generation and testing of hypotheses in the context of new therapeutic concepts in cooperation with other members of the Computational Biology group or scientists from the therapeutic area.

Requirements

  • PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or systems biology research, alternatively master´s degree in this field with sound knowledge of professional experience of working in an international industrial environment
  • Extensive experience in multi-omic data analysis, network biology, data-integration and RNA-Seq/single cell RNA-Seq
  • Knowledge in R/Bioconductor (preferred) or Python
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g. git/bitbucket) with a focus on well-documented and reproducible analyses
  • Teamplayer with excellent communication skills and innovative thinking
