The Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology is a research institute of the Max Planck Society. It was founded in 1992 in the State of Bremen and employs about 200 people. In close cooperation with numerous university and non-university research institutions, we investigate the diversity and function of microorganisms in the ocean and their interactions with their environment. Researchers from all over the world, engineers, technicians and administrative staff make an important contribution to global marine and environmental research.

In order to support the scientific community in the Department of Microbial Physiology, we are looking for a

Technical Assistant f/m/d

Activities and responsibilities

• Optimization and maintenance of bioreactors that are used to grow microorganisms.
• Sample preparation and analysis using molecular microbiology methods (e.g. PCR, cloning) and microscopy.
• Chemical analyses using gas chromatography and colorimetric assays.
• Logistics and general laboratory managemen

Qualification profile

• Training as a chemical, biological, biotechnology or medical technician or equivalent.
• Experience in bioreactors, microbiology and/or chemical analyses as well as good computer skills.
• Good knowledge of the German and English (written and spoken).
• Willingness to participate in expeditions.


We offer a 2-year full-time appointment; a further extension of the position may be considered. The salary is according to the German system for public employees (E 9a TVöD).
