The University of Giessen, Rudolf-Buchheim-Institute of Pharmacology (Medical Faculty) offers within the framework of the SFB Transregio TRR81/2 and the DFG project "Regulation of gene-selective functions of nuclear p65 NF-κB by cofactors and posttranslational modifications“
2 PhD positions in epigenetics
The positions are immediately available for 3 years. In agreement with the current regulations, the position is on the TV-H E13 scale (50 %) for public employees.
The project: The projects involve the investigation of control mechanisms for NF-κB- and interleukin-1(IL-1)-response genes at the level of chromatin. One focus will be on the analysis of nuclear multi-protein complexes which contain cytokine-regulated transcription factors and chromatin modifiers. Additionally, IL-1-regulated enhancer regions will be mapped and analyzed functionally at the genome wide level. The second focus involves the role of posttranslational modifications in regulating gene-specific functions of the nuclear factor NF-κB p65. Our central aim is to investigate the functional interplay of these factors for individual gene clusters but also genome wide to unravel new nuclear mechanisms of sterile inflammation in healthy and malignant epithelial cells and fibroblasts. The projects involve a broad spectrum of biochemical, cell biology, molecular biology and bioinformatics approaches including Chromatin immunoprecipitation, deep sequencing, CRISPR/Cas-mediated genome- engineering, protein purification- and identification, extensive fluorescence microscopy, and reconstruction of signaling pathway maps.

Your profile: You have successfully finished your master in medicine, biochemistry, biology or a related subject. You are highly self-motivated and ambitious and can work well in a highly active international research team, but also work on your own in a state-of-the art life science environment. Participation in the running teaching program is expected.
