The Department of Dermatology (Head of Department: Prof. Thomas Krieg; in the Research Group led by Dr. P. Zigrino / Prof. C. Mauch) at the Uniklinik Köln is seeking applications for apart-time (25 h/week) a
 
 PhD position
in the area of tumor biology (f/m)
 
to be employed under a limited-time of three years.
 
Our research is focussed on understanding the functional significance of the regulation of several pericellular and intracellular molecules during melanoma development. This group is well embedded in the SFB829 and has a good Infrastructure
The funded research project is a joined project of our group and that of PD Dr Hamid Kashkar and its major focus is to understand at a molecular level and the molecular mechanisms underlying XIAP accumulation in metastatic melanoma. As recent data suggested that XIAP modulates cellular motility by directing cytoskeleton reorganization, this work aims at examine the role of XIAP and its mitochondrial antagonist SMAC in the regulation of melanoma cell migration and invasion. To address these aims, we will use biochemical and cell biological approaches in combination with defined mouse models.
The highly motivated applicants should have technical experience in cells biology and molecular biology and will be actively involved in mouse work. He/She should hold a master degree/diploma in biology and will have strong written and oral communication skills in English.
 
Your salary will be based on TV-L (TV-L E13 65%).
