The Department of Translational Genomics and the CECAD in the new research group of Dr. Silvia von Karstedt is seeking applications for a part-time (65 %)
PhD position in the area of cancer cell biology

to be employed under a limited-time by WissZeitVG starting October the 1rst 2017 until February 2020.

The group offers the full spectrum of excitement and challenges that come along with the establishment of a junior research lab; the laboratory’s research focuses on understanding molecular processes that give cancer cells with certain mutations a competitive survival advantage over others following a “survival-of-the-fittest” principle.

We employ state-of-the-art techniques to monitor signaling pathways that modulate these processes. By understanding mechanisms that govern cancer cell survival of the fittest, we aim to make an impact on the development of novel cancer therapies which antagonize these pathways. To drive this task forward, we are looking for a talented and highly motivated scientist driven by the desire to make a relevant contribution to the treatment of cancer patients by discovering significant findings in the lab.

A profound knowledge of cancer cell biology, prior research experience and the ability to drive projects and a high degree of enthusiasm for cancer research are a prerequisite for this position. In addition, a master’s degree in a relevant field, such as cell biology, biology or biochemistry is required.

We offer a great environment as part of the Department of Translational Genomics and the CECAD, intensive mentoring and multiple interactions with global leaders in cancer research.

The salary is based on the TV-L.

Applications from female candidates are welcome; suitably qualified women will be given preferential consideration unless other applicants clearly demonstrate superior qualifications.

We also welcome applications from disabled candidates, who will also be given preferential consideration over other applicants with comparable qualifications.
