Vascular Physiology and Pharmacology

Our research team in the Experimental Ophthalmology Department of the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz focuses on the blood flow regulatory mechanisms in the ocular blood vessels. The major aim of our research is to unravel receptor-mediated cell signalling pathways in ocular vascular beds employing animal models, histopathology and state-of-the-art proteomics techniques.

We are now looking for medical students who are interested in working in the field of ocular vascular research and meet the following requirements:
  • Highly dedicated students in the field medicine with strong interest in fundamental research.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team with a high level of productivity for innovative/creative discoveries in a collaborative research environment.
  • High motivation, conscientious and keen to learn new techniques.
The Experimental Ophthalmology features a well-equipped animal research, histology and protein-biochemistry laboratory with all conventional electrophoretic systems, as well as a state-of-the-art MS laboratory including MALDI-MS/MS and LC-ESI-MS/MS systems for protein profiling and biomarker identification. We offer a modern laboratory within our interdisciplinary working group and expertise.

Starting date: immediately

We are looking for highly motivated medical students to join our energetic and experienced team. We offer direct and constant supervision by the PI (PD Dr. med. Gericke) and the senior scientists in the lab, as well as the prospect of working in a highly dynamic research environment.
