PhD position in Cardiovascular Translational Science (Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf, Germany)

The Cadiovascular Research Group at the Division of Cardiology, Pulmonology and Vascular Medicine of he University Hospital Duesseldorf (Director Prof. Dr. med. Malte Kelm) is seeking a

Phd Candidate (m/f)

to study the impact of insulin and diabetes associated comorbidities in myocardial infarction and cardiac and vascular function.

Activities and responsibilities

Diabetes and insulin are known to influence the outcome after acute myocardial infarction and to reduce phenomenon of remote organ protective signaling. The integrity of vascular endothelium is supposed to participate in this mechanism, whereas the role of endothelial function remains unclear so far.
The project will identify the impact of hyperinsulinemia and associated comorbidities upon myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury and the relevance of vascular integrity to contribute for remote protective signal transduction both in mice and in men. The overachieving approach of our research group and division is to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical research in order to develop the best possible use in the development of new therapeutic strategies.
