PhD student in cardiac electrophysiology

The group of Dr. Chiara Piantoni and Prof. Dr. Christian Wahl-Schott at the Institute of Neurophysiology of the Hannover Medical School offers 1 PhD position in Cardiac Electrophysiology. Our research goal is to study how electrical activity is generated and conducted in the sinoatrial node of the heart and in the cardiac conduction system. One of the main aspects of our study is the electrophysiological characterization of cardiac ionic currents, voltage changes and calcium signals in wild type and in different Knock-out mice with the aim to clarify many aspects of cardiac excitability.

Activities and responsibilities

The PhD student will work with cardiac tissue isolated from mice and will mainly perform patch clamp, optical imaging and confocal imaging experiments together with other techniques, like FRET, western blot and immunofluorescence.

Qualification profile

Qualified and highly motivated candidates are invited to apply for this position. The candidate would ideally have experience in cardiac physiology and strong interest in patch-clamp electrophysiology and imaging techniques.
