Vascular Medicine at Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf offers a position for a PhD student (f/m/d) in veterinary medicine, biology, biochemistry or related fields

Activities and responsibilities

You will be integrated in a central project of a DFG-funded initiative spanning across three sites in Bonn, Cologne and Düsseldorf focusing on aortic diseases. You will be responsible for the central coordination, planning, conductance and supervision of microsurgical techniques in animal models to induce aortic valve stenosis and aneurysm including comprehensive in vivo phenotyping (cardiac ultrasound, flow-mediated dilation, pressure volume loops), ex vivo functional assays (isolated heart, aortic rings), cell isolation, separation, cell culture, histology, immunohistochemistry, cellular and molecular analysis (FACS, PCR, western blot, electrophoresis, CLD). Furthermore, you will be responsible for the coordination between Bonn, Cologne and Düsseldorf and site-spanning quality assurance of all experiments.

Qualification profile

We search a highly motivated person with an educational profile in veterinary medicine, biology, biochemistry or related fields with interest in cardiovascular research. Experiences and knowledge in animal models and microsurgical techniques are required highly favorable. Cardiovascular phenotyping and knowledge of cardiovascular/hemodynamic analysis and imaging techniques (Ultrasound, MRI, CT) as well as advanced cellular and molecular techniques are explicitly requested.
You need to exhibit ability to work independently with high accurateness in experimental techniques and data analysis, self-motivation and the capability to work in a site-spanning team. Excellent communication skills and site spanning organization are highly relevant.

Christine Quast in a DFG funded initiative with a highly relevant focus on aortic diseases. You will be able to prove and expand your knowledge and experiences in cardiovascular models of aortic stenosis and aortic aneurysms in a highly interdisciplinary and site spanning team. Within the DFG-funded initiative we offer the opportunity to take part in professional trainings including grad school and skill trainings.
