Physician/Research Assistant for Vital Study

IfADo (Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environment and Human Factors) is a research institute with a strong expertise in toxicology, neurosciences, immunology, cell biology, functional imaging, psychology and ergonomics. The institute includes an outpatient department that supports the research projects.
Currently the four departments of IfaDo conduct the Dortmund Vital Study, an interdisciplinary longitudinal study that analyzes the influence of biological and life-style factors on cognitive performance across the lifespan. Our groups have a strong background in liver diseases (Nature. 2012 May 23;485(7399):465-70; Hepatology. 2017 Feb;65(2):722-738), functional imaging (Hepatology. 2018 Aug 13), neurosciences (Nat Neurosci. 2018 Feb;21(2):174-187; Nat Neurosci. 2014 Jun;17(6):810-2) and immunology (Nat Immunol. 2018 May;19(5):426-427) and genetic variants that influence urinary bladder cancer risk (Nat Genet. 2010 Nov;42(11):978-84).


Activities and responsibilities

The successful candidate will find comfortable work conditions in the department of occupational medicine, and excellent research conditions including a well-equipped cell and molecular biology lab, confocal-, two-photon- and CARS based imaging systems, an MRI, complex EEG devices, flow cytometry facility, equipment for genome-wide expression analyses, and a mouse facility with fluorescent reporter strains for disease relevant cell types. The successful candidate will be included into an international network of leading scientists and will obtain excellent starting conditions for a scientific career. It is possible to obtain a PhD in cooperation with the medical faculty of the Ruhr-University Bochum and also medical specialist training is possible.

Qualification profile

The successful candidate should have completed his/her medical degrees and should have a license to practice medicine. He/she should enjoy working in an international research team as well as with German speaking participants, will be responsible for clinical contributions to our research projects, will have the opportunity to also join experiments and is invited to develop an independent research profile.


The position is financed according to the German public wage law for three years with a perspective to be continued as a permanent contract.
