Junior Group Leader
“RNA-biology of inflammation and infection”

The position is term-fixed with the possibility of an extension. Salary will be according to German Public Service (TV-Hessen E14).

In the new LOEWE research cluster “Medical RNomics” (Marburg, Giessen, Bad Nauheim, Frankfurt) a junior research group is to be established that focusses on the investigation of non-coding RNAs (miRNA, lncRNA, sRNA) in bacterial infection, especially pneumonia and sepsis. Therefore, innova-tive research concepts from sequencing and bionformatics as well as animal-, cell culture-, and tissue models and investigation of human patient material can be applied. Core-Facilities for se-quencing, high-end-microscopy, small-animal-imaging, FACS-sorting and mass spectrometry as well as the robotics platform of the LOEWE Center for Synthetic Microbiology are available. A close co-operation with the clinical and experimental groups of the LOEWE cluster “Medical RNomics” is intended, further cooperations exist with the e:bio/e:Med-systems biology consortia and the SFB/TR84 „Innate Immunity of the Lung“. Basic financial equipment for personnel, investment and consumables is provided.

Main tasks are in the area of research and teaching, the establishment of an own research group, the cooperation with other research groups within the institute and the LOEWE cluster and the participation in the development of a planned collaborative research center (DFG SFB)-application. Apart from this position, it will be possible for physicians to specialize in Internal Medicine/Pneumology at the University Medical Center Giessen and Marburg (UKGM) within the frame of a Clinician-Scientist-Program.

The Candidates should hold an excellent University degree (Master/Diploma or equivalent) in Life Science or human medicine and an appropriate doctoral degree. Applicants are expected to have profound theoretical and practical experience in planning, conducting and publication of research studies in the area of immunology, infection biology or pulmonology as well as in techniques of molecular biology, biochemistry and cell- or animal-experimentation.
