At the Faculty of Medicine, Institute for Lung Research within the German Centre for Lung Research, we offer the position of a
 
PhD student/Research Assistant
 

at the earliest possible time point for two years with the possibility of an extension. Salary will be according to German Public Service (50 % TV-Hessen 13). The position will be integrated into the graduate program of the Universities of Giessen and Marburg Lung Center and a newly established cardio-vascular research framework.

Aim of the research project is to investigate the pathogenesis of vascular inflammation in diseases like pneumonia and chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD). Cell-cell communication will be studied in the context of infections (e. g. Influenza Virus and Streptococcus pneumoniae) in endothelial cells, adjacent tissue and immune cells. During the research project, innovative co-culture models and chromatin immunoprecipitation and DNA Sequencing (ChIP-Seq) in endothelial cells will be established and applied in conjunction with other methods from our laboratory (pyrosequencing, microRNA-qPCR arrays, cytokine arrays).

We are seeking highly motivated candidates holding an excellent master or diploma degree in life sciences with a distinct interest in the molecular biology of lung inflammation. Theoretical and experimental experience in eukaryotic cell culture/primary cell culture, methods for RNA analysis and/or experience in stimulation/infection are required. Additional experience in ChIP-Seq, flow cytometry and protein analysis would be of advantage.
