Ph.D.-Position in Computational Methods in Systems and Synthetic Biology

The interdisciplinary group Bioinspired Communication Systems at Technische Universitaet Darmstadt is inviting applications for a 100% PhD position (E13 TV-H) initially limited for 3 years, starting as soon as possible.

The research position is dedicated to the development of novel computational and mathematical tools for the analysis and design of synthetic circuits. Methods from statistical physics, stochastic process theory and machine learning will be used for that purpose. In particular, stochastic dynamic models of biomolecular processes will be developed and subsequently be calibrated within the development of new machine learning techniques for single-cell experimental data. Close collaboration with the LOEWE Research Cluster CompuGene is envisioned. CompuGene is a joint research project at the Technische Universitaet Darmstadt, which follows an interdisciplinary engineering approach for synthetic biology.

We provide the environment and support for publishing and presenting original research results at leading international conferences and in scientific journals. The fulfillment of the research and service requirements attached to this position also fulfill the academic requirements for a candidate's doctoral degree. The opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given.

  • Completed studies in mathematics, physics, computer science, electrical engineering or any other equivalent field
  • Solid background and interest in mathematics and experience in programming
  • Interest and proactive drive to work in an interdisciplinary team in the emerging domain of synthetic biology
