Area of Responsibility

  • Lead conceptual projects (Quality-by-Design) related to primary packaging (PP) selection, characterization (e.g. compatibility and functionality) and controls for syringes, vials, cartridges
  • Coordinate across functions and projects to ensure fulfillment of all Drug Product development tasks related to PP in line with the project plans for the development of biopharmaceuticals, e.g. offer PP options, lead PP characterization, drive PP control (e.g. user-requirement specifications and control procedures, risk management), drive root-cause-investigations, manage PP changes
  • Design, manage, perform development studies and functional methods linked to PP selection and characterization, assess data and provide related scientific documentation; identify GMP labs and transfer methods; define specifications
  • Interface to devices on combination product and device topics (e.g. syringe requirements for autoinjectors, functional tests on devices); interface to TechOps on assembly/secondary packaging process and transport validation (e.g. concept and protein impact risk assessment)
  • Collaborate intimately with suppliers to ensure appropriate quality and manufacturing controls at the primary packaging supplier sites


  • Education: Master degree with min. 6 years of experience or PhD with min. 2 years of experience in pharmaceutical technology, mechanical engineering or a similar education
  • Languages: English (fluent) / German (basics) beneficial
  • Experience: Industry experience in pharmaceutical development or manufacturing of sterile finished dosage forms, experience in functional characterization of pre- filled syringes, knowledge in project management, preferably experience with proteins
