PhD positions in Pharmaceutical Biology

The Department for Pharmaceutical Biology at the University of Tübingen seeks highly motivated PhD students to study bioactive compounds from bacterial sources. The positions are third-party funded for a minimum of 3 years and can be filled immediately.

Our work deals with the discovery, biosynthesis, engineering and physiological function of natural products with anti-infective properties. Therefore, we apply a diverse set of methods from the toolboxes of synthetic biology, biochemistry, molecular biology and natural product chemistry. In Tübingen, we are part of an internationally renowned research cluster dedicated to bacteria and their secondary metabolites.

Activities and responsibilities

We seek graduates from Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy or closely related disciplines who are enthusiastic about science and are eager to explore the Biology/Chemistry interface in bacteria.

Qualification profile

Skills in molecular biology, microbiology, and/or biochemistry are advantageous but not mandatory.


The salary is in accordance with the German Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst (TVöD).
