Within the Leibniz ScienceCampus InfectoOptics in Jena infection biologists and physicists work together to develop urgently needed novel optical diagnostic tools for infectious diseases. InfectoOptics combines research in the field of optical high technologies with current topics in infection biology.
For the project In-vivo and real-time Raman spectroscopic characterization of intracellular infections we are seeking a motivated Doctoral Researcher /Ph.D. student (m/f).
Within this Ph.D. project non-invasive photonic methods will be developed and applied to decipher complex polymicrobial intracellular infections in real-time. This involves the advancement of Raman spectroscopic imaging conditions to enable extended in-vivo imaging. Furthermore, advanced image analysis algorithms shall be developed and applied to characterize the infection scenarios using the spectroscopic data.

We expect:
  • a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Natural Sciences (Physics, Spectroscopy, Optics, Photonics, Chemistry or similar). Candidates about to earn their degree are welcome to apply.
  • desirable methodological skills: insights into spectroscopy (especially Raman and fluorescence), experience with microscopy, one programming language (e.g. R or Matlab), basics of cell cultivation
