PhD position in Göttingen - Molecular dynamics simulations of biological macromolecules

The Computational Molecular Biophysics group at the Institute for Microbiology and Genetics offers a PhD (doctoral researcher) position. The position is limited for 3 years and should be filled as soon as possible. Salary is according to TV-L 13 (65%) of German state regulated public service salary scale.

The PhD position is available in the group of Dr. Jochen Hub, in the field of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of bimolecular systems. Possible projects include methods development towards an integration of experimental data into MD simulations, towards sophisticated sampling algorithms, investigations on membrane channels or on organization in biological membranes. The simulations are conducted on the group’s computing cluster, which currently holds 1800 CPU cores and 20 GPUs, and on external computing centers. The projects are embedded into collaborations to experimental groups in Göttingen and abroad. The PhD candidate will typically become a member of the local GGNB Graduate School, providing a highly stimulating environment for the PhD candidate.

We are looking for a highly motivated and team-oriented PhD student. The applicant should have a degree in physics, physical chemistry, or a related subject. Experience in molecular dynamics, programming, or Linux/Unix-like environments is beneficial, but not required. Most important is a strong interest in molecular biophysics.

Please send your full application to Dr. Jochen Hub (jhub@gwdg.de) until Sept. 15th, 2014. Please include a cover letter (including a brief statement of motivation), a CV, all academic certificates (including all course records), your university entrance exam (according to the German Abitur), and the names of 2 references who are willing to write a letter of recommendation upon request. We request that you send us copies of your documents, as no returns will be made. We will destroy the documents after a holding period of five months.

The University of Goettingen is an equal opportunities employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply as they are underrepresented in this field. Disabled persons with equivalent aptitude will be favoured.

We are looking forward to hear from you!
