At TU Dresden, Faculty of Science, Department of Physics, the Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics offers a fixed-term position as
 
Research Fellow
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
 
working on the ATLAS experiment to be filled as soon as possible. The position entails 50% of the fulltime weekly hours and will be limited for 3 years. The period of employment is governed by § 2 Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD).
The position is funded by the DFG within the new Emmy Noether research group "Precision Monte Carlo event generators and LHC measurements", which focuses on the improved interplay between LHC experiments and theory. This junior research group is embedded in the Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics with two other ATLAS groups. The institute participates in the graduate school "Mass, Spectrum, Symmetry" together with HU Berlin and DESY Zeuthen. There are also strong links with Monte Carlo developers within the "MCnet" Marie Curie Initial Training Network of the EU.
Tasks: ATLAS physics analysis sensitive to QCD aspects (70%); Monte-Carlo event generator (Sherpa) and/or Rivet support for the ATLAS physics groups (30%).
Requirements: very good university degree (Master's or equivalent) with a specialisation for the area of particle physics; research experience related to LHC measurements; high motivation to join an analysis in the ATLAS experiment.
