PhD position in Physical Limnology
“Air-water exchange and energy flux paths in small lakes”

The Institute for Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Koblenz-Landau invites applications for a PhD position in Physical Limnology within the Environmental Physics Group (www.uphysik.uni-landau.de). The PhD project will explore the exchange of momentum, energy, water vapor and gases between lake surfaces and the atmosphere by analyzing a global data set of atmospheric eddy-covariance measurements from lakes. In addition, a measurement program will be established to quantify the generation of currents, waves and turbulence in response to atmospheric energy fluxes in selected lakes in Germany and in Finland. The project is funded by the German Research Foundation and involves cooperation with an international team of limnologists and  micrometeorologists. More information about the project can be found here:

Your profile:
  • Master of Science (or equivalent) in Physics, Meteorology, Environmental Sciences or other relevant fields
  • Strong interest and profound knowledge in fluid dynamics
  • Capability of conducting independent research, excellent skills in English language and scientific writing
  • Experience with data analysis and measurement techniques in physical limnology and/or micrometeorology is desirable
We offer:
  • 3 year contract with salary scale TV-L 13 (75 %) in a fully funded research project
  • Excellent interdisciplinary support, international collaborations and access to state-of-theart research facilities and instrumentation
  • The place of work will be the Institute for Environmental Sciences Landau, a friendly andinternational working environment within a region of high living quality
