The Ultrafast Dynamics (UFD) Research Group of the KAUST Solar Center (KSC), part of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), welcomes applications for internships of up to 6 months (further extension possible in exceptional cases). KAUST is a young and very international University at the shores of the Red Sea (close to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) with state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities. Research at the KAUST Solar Center (KSC) covers among other topics: design and synthesis of new PV materials, device preparation and performance evaluation, novel material processing schemes such as printing, (photo)physical studies using various advanced optical and electro-optical spectroscopy and microscopy techniques, and modeling and simulation of fundamental physical processes in emerging PV materials.
Activities and responsibilitiesOur present research focuses on: preparation, optimization, and characterization of photovoltaic devices and photoactive thin films, investigation of exciton and charge carrier dynamics by advanced ultrafast transient absorption and time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy, charge carrier transport studies, and steady-state electrical and optical characterization of thin films of organic and hybrid (perovskite) materials.
Qualification profileStudents with a Bachelor or Master degree in (Physical) Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, or related subjects, ideally with interest to pursue PhD studies, are encouraged to apply. Outstanding students can be considered for KAUST’s prestigious Visiting Students Research Program (VSRP). Experience with laser systems, optical spectroscopy, measurements and data acquisition techniques or data analysis, for instance using MATLAB or Origin, as well as programming skills (NI LabVIEW) is ideal.
