Salary: Entgeltgruppe E13 TVöD 70% 27 months fixed-term contract until 30.4.2018 with option to extend the contract by 9 month (until 31.01.2019), Entgeltgruppe E13 TVöD 60%
Areas of activity of the successful applicant are chemical analysis of nano-objects (layers on planar surfaces, core-shell nanoparticles) using physical methods of analytical chemistry, specifically X-ray photoelectron (XPS) and Auger-electron spectroscopy (AES). New approaches have to be developed, validated and used for practically relevant applications. This research is part of a project funded by the European Metrology Research Program EMPIR (http://msu.euramet.org/) where European national metrology institutions (NPL, PTB, INRIM) and universities (TU Vienna, University of Birmingham) are working close together. Data will be also obtained during beam times at the synchrotron radiation source BESSY II.
Profile of qualification:
An excellent university master (or diploma) degree acquired in physical chemistry or experimental physics (surface science) is mandatory. It is desirable that the applicant has some practical knowledge or strong interests in analysis of nano-materials using physical methods of analytical chemistry, specifically in XPS and/or AES (theory and applications), and basic experience in UHV technology. We expect strong interest in computer based simulation of spectra. A team oriented working style and good knowledge in English language is mandatory, too.
