PhD Positions in Biophysics / Biophysik

The research group of Prof. Dr. Knut Drescher, which is located at the Department of Physics, Philipps-Universität Marburg, and at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg, is looking for
PhD students in biophysics,
(reference: biophys16)
to start in the autumn/winter of 2016 or in early 2017. PhD students in the group enjoy excellent working conditions in a highly international and friendly research environment.

The research will focus on understanding biophysical aspects of collective behaviors in bacteria. The particular collective behaviors that will be investigated are collective movement, swarm-formation, and the formation of multicellular communities known as “biofilms”. The research will use state-of-the-art fluorescence microscopy methods and image processing. A Masters degree in physics or a closely related discipline is required for these positions. The particular direction of the PhD projects will depend on the skills and interests of the PhD students.

More details about the research group of Prof. Dr. Knut Drescher can be found at http://drescherlab.org

Successful applicants for the PhD positions can also become members of the (more biology-oriented) International Max Planck Research School for Environmental, Cellular and Molecular Microbiology (IMPRS-MIC; http://www.imprs-microbiology.mpg.de).

As an equal opportunity employer, the Max Planck Society is committed to employing more individuals with disabilities. We therefore actively encourage individuals with disabilities to apply. We also seek to increase the percentage of female employees in areas where they are under-represented. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply.
