The In Vivo Pharmacology Department in Hamburg is looking for a highly motivated and passionate

Veterinary Pathologist (f/m/d)

permanent position in part-time (50 - 75 %)

with a focus on pre-clinical research, drug development and biomarker discovery.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Perform histopathological analyses for pre-clinical and toxicological studies (non-GLP)
  • Read microscope slides of any organs and tissues from predominantly rodent models of metabolic, inflam­ma­tory, degenerative, fibrosing, infectious, neo­plastic and other diseases, occasionally also from non-rodent mammalian species
  • Interpret conventional histological stains (H&E, PAS, etc.), immuno­histo­logical labelings (immuno­histo­chemistry, immuno­fluore­scence) and RNAscope® in‑situ‑hybridisation results
  • Evaluate and document morphological findings, pathological changes, and patterns of expres­sion/ (co‑)locali­za­tion of targets and markers
  • Author and deliver written reports, complying with deadlines
  • Attend face-to-face and online meetings with clients and collaboration partners
  • Present, explain and discuss your findings in interdisciplinary settings
  • Cooperate with histology lab staff, provide feedback on results and quality, assist in trouble-shooting, and support optimisation of processes and deliverables to set and meet highest standards
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external partners, ensure client satisfaction
  • Keep yourself up to date with the state of the art of your profession; attend scientific meetings and continu­ing education seminars

Your optional responsibilities (up to 25 % of working time):

  • Collaborate with Evotec’s global veterinary group
  • Perform veterinary care of laboratory animals (mice, rats), assist in health monitoring
  • Assist in laboratory animal sciences
  • Discuss animal permits with scientists
  • Join the IACUC (institutional animal care and use committee)

Your ideal qualification:

  • Doctor’s degree in veterinary medicine (DVM/Dr. med. vet.), ideally board-certified veterinary pathologist (Fachtierarzt für Pathologie) or advanced trainee/resident with the main focus on and long-term experience in veterinary pathology
  • Scientific research experience in academia or industry, proficiency in statistics is desirable
  • Required only for optional responsibilities in veterinary care: FELASA C certification (can be accomplished "on the fly")
  • Desirable for optional responsibilities in veterinary care: experience with AAALAC
  • Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English language, German would be a plus
  • Scientific attitude and an analytical mind
  • Critical awareness of potential bias and error sources
  • Capability for cooperative working in interdisciplinary teams and readiness to provide and receive feedback
  • Talent for organization, self-organization and time management
