Research Associate / PhD Student
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

within the Cluster of Excellence „Physics of Life” (PoL) starting at the earliest possible date. The position entails 100 % of the fulltime weekly hours for two years or entails 65 % of the fulltime weekly hours for three years, governed by the Fixed-Term Research Contracts Act (WissZeitVG). The position offers the opportunity for further academic qualification (e.g. PhD.).

The PoL cluster aims to elucidate the “laws of physics” that underlie the dynamic spatiotemporal organisation of life into molecules, cells and tissues. Its unique focus is to bring fundamental physics to biology for the purpose of understanding and solving biological questions. Using this holistic approach PoL is dedicated to identify physical principles that govern the dynamic organisation of active living matter across multiple scales utilising innovative experimental approaches, theoretical predictions and computer simulation. Activities and responsibilities

You will be conducting research in the area of exploring multiscale biological data involving latest interactive, immersive visualization technology. Smart microscopes and data-driven simulations deliver biological imagery, which needs to be explored, analysed and understood across several scales (e.g., from molecules to cells to tissues) with a seamless transition between visual models, simulation results or microscopy images at varying levels of details. Research includes the real-time steering of simulation or microscope parameters and perturbations within immersive environments. Publication and presentation of research results at international venues is an important part of the work.

You will work in the vibrant scientific environment of the Cluster of Excellence of the Dresden-Concept Partners and TU Dresden, one of the leading German research universities. Qualification profile

We are looking for motivated and talented staff members with specific background knowledge or prior experience in interactive information visualisation and/or novel human-computer interaction or interactive visual computing. A very good university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in computer science or a related area is required. Candidates should be independent in organising their work, keen on working with teams of experts across projects, and fluent in English (oral and written).
